For employees who are late at work or have problem coming to work on time to me their is something that is causing that person to be late. Sure the demands of work suggest that people turn up to work on time and as agreed in their work agreement, however the lifestyle and emotional overall picture of the employee has to be looked at carefully. The person may feel either internally or externally unwell. Funnily, the timekeeping and lateness also might indicate that the trains or the bus was late in arriving. The local road traffic is another excuse used by employees who are running late during the bad weather season.
So timekeeping and lateness sure go hand in hand and combine themselves well with each other. As being late is a sign of poor timekeeping. So the from the employers perspective the money docking policy is an approach that could be used in an extreme enforcing way though perhaps meetings between the manager and the employee are needed to be established so that the manager finds out the employees own reasons for being late. The truth is that there may or may not be a valid or plausible excuse for being late.
Also the reasons for a person being late to work or late in doing a task at work may also have reasons why this is taking place, as perhaps the family lifestyle experienced at home or socially outside the workplace may not be all that well. Social and domestic factors also could have an impact on an employees time keeping and work performance. Other factors such as bereavement or illness or disease of other family members or relatives may also interfere with the individuals ability to work on time.
The reason why timekeeping and lateness is taken so seriously in work is that by some employee being late this means that someone else has to wait for the late person to turn up to work. The stress and tension this brings to all other team members as a result increases. Other people might have to keep a job on hold because of one employee that is holding the team up in their own team or departmental organisation. Also by one person not being on time that can mean lost productivity and lost work performance.
Ways to sort the organisation stopping this problem is by monitoring peoples work attendance and timekeeping. This is necessary at times when certain employees make a habit of turning up for work late. Some employees in return will offer different or similar excuses as to their lateness. Though employers also have to be sure that they are not rushing into punishing the employee as they would feel that they are being discriminated against.
