It was with great interest that I read the articles on trans-humanism. I don’t read much in that area, so it came as a bit of a surprise, this topic. Cloning is already ‘old’, but apparently the trials with “Dolly” were not satisfactory, so now this.
Many of the social implications have been addressed in the other articles, and I don’t know if I can improve on them. However, I believe that the quest for “bigger and better” feeds into our selfishness, and that has never yet lead to an improvement in our society. How is this endeavor any different from what happened in WW ll? Do we really think that the powers that be, will be so gracious as to allow the poor and the down-and-outers to fix themselves up? Aren’t money and power going to speak LOUDER than love and need and in the process put others down?
Again, I see Satan playing with the wishes of humanity, and showing us shortcuts outside of God. God has already provided a possibility for us to become perfect. It takes humility, though, and not the prideful “I can do this myself” attitude observed in trans-humanism.
God’s wish for us is to live in peace and harmony with each other, but especially with Him. He, as our Creator, has a right to out lives. Because of His love for us He is willing to transform our mortal bodies into heavenly ones, so we can spend eternity with Him. This transformation does not come about by implants, but by giving ourselves over to the One Who created us in the first place, and thus is able to transform us from the inside out.
God’s promise of this new life does not only apply to people, but also to the animal world. The wolf and the lamb will feed together, a child will not be harmed by the cobra, and the lion will eat straw like the ox. (Free interpretation of Isaiah 11)
There are two character traits we need to get to this place: humility to accept God’s way, and patience to accept God’s timing. In our society those traits are hard to find, so we pursue cloning and trans-humanism.
