Over the years, the world-famous physicist, Dr. Stephen Hawking, has presented a new look at many perceptions of the world and space. Born on the 300th anniversary of the death of Galileo and holding the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics post that was once held by Isaac Newtonnow the renowned Hawking has entered the realm of television to do the difficult job of explaining to the average layman the advanced physics of this brilliant man’s mind.
Extremely difficult, it is a necessary job as many professional experts feel that “common sense has no place in the quantum world,” which is why his usual documentaries have attracted these experts and not the average laymen. Now attracting these individuals on the general television shows and putting out simple questions on Yahoo makes him appear “approachable” to the less than “genius levels” such as myself.
Working with supposedly labeled non-genius mentality to seek high levels of intelligence is not a new thing for Hawking. The media just sent out an announcement that Hawking has recently sent out a search in Africa for the highest the most brilliant minds of Africa’s Einsteins, an announcement that went into effect at the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) in Cape Town. Not the UK, the US, or the USSR, but Africa, which says a lot for the man. Alongside were two Nobel physics laureates and the head of NASA, with AIMS founded only four years ago by another British professor, Neil Turok, professor of mathematical physics at Cambridge University and an education activistthe purpose has been to expand postgraduates in an effort to accelerate Africa’s developments. Successfully, AIMS now receives six applicants for every one of its places, with 160 graduations so far.
Just recently, Dr. Hawking and his colleagues have decided that by “treating the early cosmos as a quantum object with a multitude of alternative universes that gradually blend into ours,” the explanation of why our infant universe has expanded so rapidly will be better understood. Always seeking, the mind of this genius may feel that the answers to a beginning universe could be best understood by bringing in the beginning minds of new scientists and physics majorssuch as Africawith a new way of looking at things.
“The world of science needs Africa’s brilliant talents, and I look forward to meeting prospective young Einsteins from Africa in the near future,” said Hawking. “If my visit helps to create opportunities for Africans to enter math and science, I will be delighted.” With a future bright, Professor Turok also said the in addition to looking for an African Einstein, they want to see the African “Gates,” “Brins,” and “Pages” of the future, looking at the founders of Microsoft and Google.
