The Human Race
an endangered specie
Let’s face it. Chances are we will be extinct before too long, compared to how long we have been on planet earth. Some experts say that civilization started more than 10.000 years ago. Looking at the world today, makes it seem impossible that we will last another 10.000+ years.
Just basic things such as natural resources reserves (oil, drinking water etc.), ocean pollution, increasing fertility problems in the western world, synthetics in food and the apparent inability of humans to grow up, take responsibility and respect one another, are very clear signs that we are about to go extinct.
We have created a few things though, that might help:
1. Religion. In some cases, religion has helped to restore order and given it’s followers simple sets of rules that when followed, make society a better place. The 10 commandments are a great example.
2. Politics. When applied thoughtfully, active democracy can improve society to the better, where citizens play an important role in shaping the political landscape. Scandinavia is a good example of that.
3. Capitalism. Has more often than not increased the average prosperity in countries where it has been applied thoughtfully. Again, Scandinavia is a fine example.
4. The Internet. A constantly updated encyclopedia about anything and everything. The best way to get an important message to a global community in one delivery. Has proved itself times and times over when large groups of people need important information.
The problem however, is that on a global scale, these 4 have a tendency to create more diversity than unity. We have all the tools, but we lack something to use them right.
I have given that lack some thought recently and am beginning to believe that a possible root to our problems is that we generally don’t have a clear mind.
People have so many different ideas flying around in their heads, that they never really get a chance to stop and think clearly, without something or someone affecting that thought. The distractions are simply so many that they wear us down and the little energy we have left, we drain out by taking care of what feels important to us. Unfortunately, that isn’t always what is really important for us to take care of.
Have you ever:
Ignored the voice of your child while doing something on the Internet?
Neglected friends and family while chasing your career?
Talked negatively about other religions, instead of focusing on your own?
Complained about politicians instead of writing them a letter with suggestions about what they could do?
The human race is digging it’s own grave as you read this.
We all know it and we are too lazy to stand up and start working towards a better world.
I wish I could find an unselfish reason to why we should survive.
