Sad Weather Emotions Depression

Just as what the rhyme says, “rain, rain go away little Johnny wants to play.” The rain outside forbids little Johnny to play outside and that would make him sad. Have you ever felt irritated when it’s extremely hot or melancholic when it’s always raining? How about a feeling of positive energy around you when the sun is shining and it’s a little bit windy but it’s not that hot?

The songs “Rain drops falling on my head” and “Kiss the Rain” are songs that are relating emotions to the weather at the same time. Researchers confirmed this in the 70’s, studies showed that an episodic depression is with little humidity and high exposure to sunshine, if both are in extremes results will be negative.

Some people have really a prone effect on weather changes. The most common and popular is SAD or Seasonal Affective Disorder. These people are vulnerable to low mood and then foggy, cold days or if it’s raining everyday. They will experience depression. They tend to sleep more, lock their selves in their rooms and loss of appetite. Their body’s time clock goes out of sync, thus disrupts the body routine and also affects the hormones.

How about getting grumpy because it’s too hot? There were studies done that with longer periods of high temperature, percentage of crime also increases. They tend to become irritable, frustrated or angry for no apparent reason. In order for you to avoid these emotions during weather changes you should be able to control your feelings. Do things that you love the most listen to music, paint, write, and learn how to play an instrument read a good book or have a vacation. Feelings are transitory. Try to turn your negative thoughts into positive ones. Go outside when sunny days come. Go to the beach and lie down. Watch the waves and the sun or go for a hike. Always be active so that you wouldn’t be feeling any blues even though the season or weather changes. These were suggested by Ani Kalayicin, a professor of psychology at Fordham University.

Your emotions and the change of weather do not only affect the emotions but also your health so exercise daily, eat proper diet, and avoid smoking and drinking or else you’ll be experiencing chest pains, headaches, migraines, sleep disorders and nausea. Always remember once the year has started, think positively and you will have a good year ahead.
