Skulls are one of humanity’s most reoccurring symbol of death, and a very powerful icon in the visual realm of cultures all over the world. Thirteen crystal skulls of seemingly ancient origin have been discovered in parts of Mexico, Central America and South America, giving birth to one of the most fascinating subjects of 20th Century archaeology.
These Geo-morphic skulls, found in and around the ancient ruins of both Mayan and Aztec civilizations (with possible evidence linking some of the skulls with past civilizations in Peru) are indeed a mystery as profound as Giza’s Pyramids Stonehenge, or the giant animus’s that grace Peru’s Nazca desert. Some of the skulls are believed to be between 5,000 and 37,000 years old.
Many an indigenous people talk of their remarkable properties which include healing and bestowing good fortune, but nobody seems to know for sure where they originated, and for what purpose they were originally commissioned. Some speculate that they are remnants of Atlantian art, or that they were given to humankind by extra terrestrial intelligences as communication devices.
A great deal of research is being done to analyze the physical makeup of the some of the skulls. Experts agree that the skulls should have cracked, or shattered to pieces while they were being carved. IBM scientists were quoted as saying “This thing shouldn’t exist” after they ran a spectrograph of the skulls crystalline structure. No tool marks of any kind were detected, further deepening what is already a perplexing phenomena.
Some of the more famous crystal skulls are listed below. Many are used to turn a profit with claims of their “miraculous” abilities.
Mitchell Hedges Skull:
Perhaps the most famous of all the crystal skulls in the world today is the Mitchell-Hedges Crystal Skull, named after the real-life “Indiana Jones” of the 20th Century, British explorer and adventurer F. A. Mitchell-Hedges. It’s most astounding feature being the detachable lower jaw bone, a piece that is carves from the same quartz rock as the rest of the skull.
Sha Na Ra:
The crystal skull called Sha Na Ra, named in memory of a Shaman Healer, is made of a clear quartz. It has the curious distinction of having been discovered in an actual archaeological dig in Mexico – providing much needed credibility as to the skulls ancient origins. Sha Na Ra is one of the few skulls to have been conclusively proven to originate in Pre- Colombian times, making the claim that it was found by ” psychic archaeology” all the more in credible.
