From the theaters to science Mars has been a popular spot in many different medias recently. After the discovery of trace amounts of methane being discovered in the atmosphere of Mars scientist have been scrambling trying to figure out where it came from. After much narrowing down of the usual suspects it has been left to two causes. It is either the rather mundane geological in nature ,or the more enthusiastically enjoyed possibility biological in nature. Many people believe the trace amount discovered to be too small amount to be caused by any form of geologic event. The more likely cause being that og biological activity such that as wastes of bacterium. The cause of the methane are still under much debate by many scientist ,and science fiction fans alike. Though it has yet to be decided officially it would not really be a far reach to see any kind of bacteria to be living in such conditions. All one has to do is look to our own planet to see that bacteria live in every inhospitable environment known to mankind. From the acidic waters of the geologically active Yellowstone National Park in the United States to the deepest dark recesses of the Mariana Trench. The most inhospitable environments you could think of on earth have living bacteria inhabiting them. The step to reaching Mars is not really a large leap from what is needed for sustaining life on Mars. Mars itself is not as inhospitable to life itself just organisms such as ourselves. Mars atmosphere contains also trace amounts of oxygen which would be able to enable bacterium to live. Mars it’s self can contain life such as these ,but not yet discovered. It may take longer time as such organisms may live deeper in the soil than we have yet to dig. While only time will tell whether ,or not such organisms exist on Mars it is still a fascinating prospect to not anticipate that life is still out there ,and just because we cannot see it does not mean it does not exist. There are an endless realm of possibilities that such worth while ventures may locate and sample such organisms ,and relay a sample for us on Earth to examine. While many say it is just a simple geologic cause answer this simple question what geologic event would put just a trace amount of methane in the atmosphere because even small volcanic activity is too large of an event ,and a pocket of methane gas erupting would be to large for the amounts in the atmosphere what would cause this level of methane? Until it is fully answered all we can do is debate on this ,but many of us are still looking for the others out there because mathematically speaking there is no way we are alone in the universe.
