How to Gain Status

Everyone, and I mean everyone wants to have some sort of status. They want to be higher up in the pecking order. Even if they are the in the lowest stratum of society, they will want to have a position of regard over their peers – everyone, no matter how well balanced, and above it all they think they are, wants to be a higher rank than others.

This book tells you how to get that status!

Much of what we achieve in life is obtained through communication – what we communicate and how we communicate. This will be obvious to those who have learned the real essence of what communication is all about and then gone on to have MASTERED the art of communication.

This notion of practising the art of communication is probably less obvious to us mere mortals, which means we are hardly likely to master the art of communication necessary for achieving status.

Remember, communication isn’t just about the noises that fall out of our mouth, it is about all the other signals that we make.

Everyone in the 21st century, must now be aware of the phrase body language and to some extent how to read it. Fewer though are aware of the deeper notion of non-verbal communication and how to use that to be successful and attain status.

This book encompasses areas such as sociology, psychology and its connected brother social-psychology, to go a hefty way to explaining the art of communication in our quest for status. There is also a good splashing of communication theory, which fortunately doesn’t become too academic.

We are talking about things such as who needs status, the systems to use to achieve it and how to give yourself status. The power of influence should be obvious, but not everyone is aware of what this really is and the book goes a good way to making you understand this.

Talking itself is not only what we do, it is tactical and what we say has to be planned and measured.

The book will give you a thorough insight into the mechanics of status in the workplace – this not only becomes important in terms of keeping a (status) position you have but in achieving more. It tells you how to increase your visibility, and obviously how to be efficient in being visible.

There is a studied chapter about high-status people leading onto the chapter on Status – Behaviour, Voice and Appearance. It might seem odd having this as a last chapter, but liken it to this:

Many people pick up a guitar when young expecting to be rock star, but don’t realise that there is more to it than being good on a guitar – they would do well to be prepared to find out about the pressures of stardom and what is expected of them, and then consider if they can handle that pressure, as well as having the ability to play guitar to the required level.

This book takes a similar approach – before it teaches you the obvious, the author wants you to know that achieving and maintaining status isn’t a breeze – as well as knowing the ‘how to achieve status’ you also need to become a master at dealing with the pitfalls that come with it.

This book is a compelling read and you may not feel you particularly want or need status but for anyone who needs to attain or keep a position of status for personal or professional reasons, this is a great read.
