First of all, I’d like to say that I hate ants. They are a pest and when out of control, they are all over the place. Hard to get rid of, for one. Then one needs to buy something to kill them with. They are just another pain in life. But back to the question at hand, I’m not really sure how they can carry twice their weight or ten times their weight. How many is it anyway? I believe it’s the same as you and I. If the weight is right, we can carry another person! I’ve seen flies on top of each other flying around. What’s the difference? I have seen an army of ants once and I did witness an ant carrying another. But, I always did wonder of this question. I don’t know why except that someone has made a big deal out of this. Pointed it out (so to speak) and it had built up the curiousity in us. It is an odd question I think. I think someone was truly bored and , like me watcching ants one day. Though This question never came to mind for me! Guess I really didn’t care one way or another. Maybe I should have. Who knows?
How does an ant carry something bigger than itself? I’ve given my theory stated above though there are many people out there, I’m sure that have other theories to this. I’ve seen ants carries bread crumbs and dead worms. They’ve carried other things that I’m not sure what they are exactly. It is weird when one thinks about it, though! But does it really matter? I think the curiousity is about as numb as asking “Why did the chicken cross the road?”, Which I know has nothing to do with it. But, I guess you understand what I’m getting at! Who cares? Is this something to worry about? I don’t think so.
I’ve seen them carry their dead as well. Where they were taking them, who knows? I really don’t stay around long enogh to see but, I’m sure they have their own kind of burial ground. Like I said, ants give me the Heebee Jeebees anyway. They make me itch for one. Why are thre so many of them? It’s like a pack of wolves or bees in a hive and on and on. I know there are too many as far as I’m concerned and I really don’t care to think about them much except when they come in my home. However, I am boasting my own opinion since the question came up!
That’s another thing, being called an army of ants! What’s with that? I picture them with little helmets and carrying muskets. Maybe carrying ANTS HAVE RIGHTS TOO signs! Maybe that’s why they can just waltz in the home and take over! Then again that’s why they can carry more than their own weight, it’s an army!
