Unfortunately, not everybody gets to go to Grandma’s house for Thanksgiving every year. This means that many a turkey-buying-newbie will be wandering the frozen food section of the local grocery store, wondering how much turkey they need and just what exactly do all those fancy “organic” labels mean, anyway?
Well, the friendly people at Wal-Mart have created a list of basic tips designed to help people both get the best turkey and understand what organic really stands for.
I’m clueless when it comes to choosing a turkey, but according to these tips it looks pretty simple. One pound per person, up to a 12 lb bird. Over 12 lbs shoot for 3/4 lb per person. Frozen vs fresh. I might need a calculator, but still it seems easy enough! And as far as organic food labels go, it’s definitely worth a read if you haven’t looked into it much before. They give a good basic lesson on the what and why of organic labeling.
