Jumping rope is an effective, relatively low-impact aerobic exercise. It can be a rigorous discipline if undertaken at length. However, the right rope can help you avoid chin injuries or undue strain on your arms and back. Jumping rope is excellent for conditioning the anaerobic and aerobic energy systems, making it perfect for high intensity interval training. The American Heart Association specified that jumping rope is an excellent exercise for cardiovascular fitness, muscle endurance and coordination
Single Speed Rope
The single speed rope is durable, lightweight and inexpensive. The speed of this rope makes it best suited for intermediate to advanced jumpers. For groups or teams, single speed rope are usually avoided because they are less attractive than their colorful beaded counterparts. Yet, they do remain a staple for coaches and jumpers alike, according to the JUMP2bFIT program.
Beaded Rope
Beaded ropes are heavier than single or cloth ropes and tend to be most durable during cold weather and on pavement. The additional weight provides optimal aerobic challenge. The weight of these ropes allows a slower return to the ground so they are useful when learning new tricks. They tend to hold the high arc longer that lighter, faster ropes. Additionally, the louder sound provided by the beads when hitting the pavement can be helpful to establish a rhythmic jumping pattern.
Woven Cloth Rope
This rope is durable and multifunctional. Preferred for double Dutch teams that might need to slide it along the floor for tricks, it does also hold a nice arc. Unfortunately, these ropes do fray and get dirty quickly when used outdoors. For beginners and children, the woven cloth rope is often preferred because it does not bounce or skip when hitting the ground.
