Overview
Blemishes, also known as pimples or zits, can be caused by many things, such as hormonal changes, certain medications and improper skin care. Fortunately, in most cases, clearing up blemishes is not hard if you are persistent. There are excellent over-the-counter spot treatments on the market to clear up blemishes, usually containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, which kill bacteria, reduce swelling and dry the skin. Removing facial blemishes, if you have only one or two, generally takes two to three days.
Step 1
Wash your face with a mild, non-drying soap, and rinse well with warm water. Hot water can dry your face, and cold water may make blemishes stand out more.
Step 2
Pour enough alcohol-free toner onto a cotton ball to wet it without causing it to drip. Swipe the cotton ball all over your face, from forehead to chin, in gentle sweeping motions. Let the toner air dry completely.
Step 3
Apply a dime- to quarter-size dot of non-comedogenic moisturizer to the fingertips of one hand. Non-comedogenic moisturizers will not clog the pores and cause more blemishes. Massage the moisturizer into your skin, avoiding the blemishes.
Step 4
Place a dot of acne spot treatment containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid directly onto your blemishes. It might sting a little, but that’s normal.
Step 5
Repeat Steps 1 through 4 just before you go to bed.
