Overview
Detoxing is a popular way to clear out the system, start a new diet, or just recharge your batteries. While Western medicine has proven that most toxins are flushed from the body by the liver and kidneys, Eastern medicine postulates that sweat glands serve the same function. Foot detox patches are popular in Japan and China for this reason. Although there’s no scientific proof that they work, there’s also no evidence that they do any harm.
Step 1
Wash your feet at bedtime. Use plenty of soap and warm water, and a loofah or net scrubber to clean off any dirt and open up the pores.
Step 2
Dry your feet thoroughly with a clean towel.
Step 3
Prepare the foot detox patches according to the instructions for the particular brand you purchased. They usually have a backing that peels off to expose the self-adhesive.
Step 4
Affix the detox patch to your feet according to the instructions or diagram the manufacturer has supplied. Some detox patches go on the bottom of the foot, while others are put on the instep and arch.
Step 5
Leave the patches on while you sleep. Check the color in the morning, when you peel them off. A discoloration indicates that toxins that were excreted in sweat during the night. Apply new patches every night until the patches are as clean when you peel them off as they were when you put them on.
