There are hundreds of different commercial treatments readily available for improving hair growth. These are often expensive and include lots of chemicals. For those who prefer to use natural alternatives to stimulate hair growth, there are plenty of different preparations that can be made at home with simple ingredients and at a fraction of the cost.
Nettle Hair Treatment
Nettle is traditionally used to help stimulate hair growth. Place 125g of nettles in a pint of water plus a pint of cider vinegar. Bring to the boil and then reduce and simmer for at least 30 minutes. When cool, strain into a sterilized glass jar and add four drops of rosemary essential oil.
To use, simply rub a few drops through the scalp on a daily basis. There is no need to rinse. This treatment is simple but effective, and makes your scalp feel fresh.
Hot Oil Treatment to Improve Hair Growth
Rosemary is often used to help improve hair growth and is especially beneficial for thinning hair. It contains flavonoids that increase blood circulation and blood flow to the scalp to nourish the hair.
To get the most benefit from this treatment, massage the scalp thoroughly with fingertips and palms of your hand. When complete, hair should be wrapped in a warm towel.
For a scented hair treat, simply mix together 100mls of olive oil together with 10 drops of rosemary and five drops of lavender essential oil. Warm the oil in your hands and smooth through your hair, thoroughly massaging in at the roots.
Leave for 30 to 60 minutes before washing out.
Herbal Hair Rinse
An excellent way to encourage hair growth and slow down thinning hair is to use a herbal hair rinse regularly. A rinse is used after hair has been washed and conditioned. Once hair is rinsed with the herbal rinse, there is no need to wash it out.
Place 8 tbsp. each of fresh rosemary and nettle into 2 pints of boiling water. Leave the mixture to cool completely. Once hair is washed and conditioned, hold your head over a large bowl and pour the rinse through the hair. Repeat again by re-using the rinse from the bowl. Do not rinse out.
