Overview
As people become more educated about ingredients in the personal care products they use every day, interest in organic products is growing. The Food and Drug Administration regulates only color additives in cosmetics, so most ingredients in products such as facial cream are not assessed for safety. Because skin is the largest organ of the body and absorbs everything you put on it, making your own organic face cream might be the best way to ensure you are not exposing yourself to unwanted toxins.
Step 1
Warm the base oils and beeswax over low heat in a small saucepan until the wax is just melted. In another pan, warm the distilled water or hydrosol.
Step 2
Remove both pans from heat and allow the oils and beeswax to cool until they begin to thicken but are still liquid.
Step 3
Drizzle the water or hydrosol into the oil and wax mixture, stirring or whisking rapidly for two to four minutes or until the mixture turns a pale yellow cream. Pierce the tip of the vitamin E capsule and squeeze the contents into the cream, then add the essential oils and rapidly stir for an additional four for five minutes. The cream should be moderately thick and cool.
Step 4
Spoon the cream into the glass or plastic jar and place the cap on immediately. Allow the cream to sit for an hour before use. The entire process takes about 30 minutes. This recipe yields approximately 1/4 cup of highly concentrated cream. It does not have to be refrigerated if used within 30 days. If refrigerated, the cream will last up to six months.
Step 5
Apply the cream after using a cleanser and toner or a scrub or mask. You’ll need a only pea-sized amount to cover the face and throat.
