The University of Maryland Medical Center states that ginkgo leaves contain two chemicals, terpenoids and flavonoids, which are believed to contain antioxidant qualities. Ginkgo leaves are used to enhance blood flow to the brain and treat circulatory disorders, both of which may aid in promoting the growth of healthy hair follicles.

Relora

Relora contains two plant extracts from the phellodendroin amurense and magnolia officinalis and helps control dehydroepiandrosterone and cortisol in the adrenal system, which are both hormones related to anxiety and stress that can lead to obesity and hair loss. Relora has also been shown to reduce stress-related obesity and control the appetite.

Treatment

According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, 60 to 80 milligrams of milk thistle seed extract should be taken two to three times daily fro the prevention of hair loss and proper detoxification. When taking ginkgo, 40 to 80 milligrams three times daily is recommended for improved blood flow to the hair follicles and antioxidant support. Finally, it is recommended that relora supplements be taken one to three times a day in 250-milligram doses to reduce stress and support the adrenal system.
