Benzoyl peroxide is an anti-bacterial agent, so it is very effective in fighting off bacteria on the face. According to Acne.org, Benzoyl peroxide works by killing P. acnes, the bacteria that is responsible for causing acne in the first place. Also, it works by drying up the skin in order to prevent acne breakouts from occurring. When applying Benzoyl peroxide, you should be careful, as it will bleach fabric and hair.
Adapalene
Adapalene, produced under the brand name Differin, is a topical product that is derived from vitamin A. It works by preventing hair follicles from being clogged, killing skin bacteria and promoting cell turnover. Adapalene slows down the process of accumulation skin cells, which cause acne.
