Aveda Be Curly Ingredients

The Aveda Be Curly conditioner enhances curls, combats frizz, boosts shine and is a daily conditioner, according to Aveda’s website. Aveda products use ‘green ingredients’ that are organic, sourced from different habitats all over the world, provide fair compensation to suppliers, do not negatively impact the environment and are animal friendly. The active ingredients in Aveda’s Be Curly conditioner are aloe, wheat protein, orange, bergamot, lemon, lime and marshmallow root.

Aloe

Aloe is a succulent plant belonging to the lily family. Aloe is common houseplant used for healing, soothing burns, cuts, and scratches. Aloe helps prevent flaking, tightens pores and moisturizes the skin, according to the National Institutes of Health. It is used in many hair products to sooth and moisturize the scalp.

Wheat Protein

Wheat protein from whet germ oil contains vitamin E, essential fatty acids, protein and other vitamins and minerals. Vitamin E in wheat protein, which moisturizes, is used in hair and skin care products. It is also a natural preservative that prolongs product shelf life. Proteins fill in porous areas on the hair and reduce flyaways, according to “Fitness Magazine.”

Orange

Orange oil is an antioxidant and is used for fragrance, according the American Academy of Dermatology. Its astringent properties are good for the scalp.

Bergamot

Bergamot is a pear shaped orange (Citrus aurantium) that is used in perfume oils, according to the Encyclopedia Britannica. Essential oils made from the rind are used in many cosmetic products for its pleasing scent and antiseptic properties. It is also used as a flavor in Earl Grey tea and in aromatherapy.

Lime

Lime is a good cleansing agent and has a fresh citrus scent that invigorates the senses. Lime is used in cooking, cleaning products and in drink mixes. Limes are also the choice of fruit for sailors to keep from getting scurvy. British doctors found that sucking on limes kept sailors from getting the disease, according to the Indiana Public Media. This is why sailors are called “Limeys.”

Lemon

Lemons have similar properties as limes, but the aroma is different. Aveda uses the scent of lemons in Be Curly as aromatherapy to refresh the senses.

Marshmallow Root

Marshmallow root, Althea officinalis, is used to provide hold in the Be Curly conditioner. Marshmallow is a perennial and has heart shaped leaves. It is found in marshy areas near the sea, according to the Encyclopedia Britannica. Marshmallow has anti-inflammatory properties. It is also used to treat irritated skin and for tissue regeneration, according to the National Institutes of Health.
