Overview
Nuvo lotion, known by the brand name Cetaphil, is a thick skin cleanser that removes dirt and oil from pores and is gentle enough for children to use. And in a 2004 study published in “Pediatrics,” Dr. Dale Lawrence Pearlman presented the lotion as an effective lice treatment in children and adults. Using this lotion is not only effective, but it costs less than traditional chemically enhanced lice treatments on the market today.
Step 1
Comb the hair thoroughly, sectioning it into four parts. Using a fine-toothed comb, run the comb through each section of hair to remove any live lice. Rinse the comb in hot water after each pass to kill the live lice that you find.
Step 2
Section the hair again and apply liberal amounts of Cetaphil to the hair. Start at the scalp and work your way to the end of the hair shaft, thoroughly saturating each strand. You will see large amounts of the lotion in the hair. This is normal.
Step 3
Comb the hair to remove excess Cetaphil and wipe the lotion on a clean towel or disposable cloth.
Step 4
Blow-dry your hair on the highest setting. This will dry the Cetaphil, which will form a thick crust, trapping the lice in the hair and limiting their mobility.
Step 5
Sleep with the Cetaphil in your hair. The dried lotion will smother the lice. It is important to ensure that it remains in your hair for up to eight hours, because lice can live without air for six hours.
Step 6
Rinse the hair thoroughly after eight hours to remove the crusted lotion. It is not necessary to shampoo, because Cetaphil is a cleanser. Comb the hair to remove dead lice and nits, sectioning the hair and working your way from the base of the head to the scalp.
