How to Unwaterproof Bentonite

Overview

Bentonite is a product made of oil, often used to waterproof parts of an engine. The grease is extremely difficult to remove and does not mix with water at all. Bentonite holds its own in wet, hot or cold environments. Finding a way to unwaterproof bentonite is an extremely daunting task.

Instructions

Step 1

Take a rag, soak it in solvent, and apply the solvent in a large quantity to the surface that must be unwaterproofed.

Step 2

Take any small parts that must be unwaterproofed and soak them in a bucket or jar filled with solvent.

Step 3

Allow the solvent 15 minutes to soak in properly.

Step 4

Remove any extra grease with a dry rag. Cotton swabs can be used to remove stains in small areas by dipping them in solvent and letting the small spots soak as well.
