Overview
Acne is a disorder of the sebaceous glands and hair follicles. It occurs when the sebaceous glands produce too much oil which clogs the hair follicles. Acne is especially common during adolescence when the sebaceous glands are at their most active. You may be able to get rid of acne with materials you already have at home. The goal of these acne remedies is to imitate the effects of acne medication.
Step 1
Make a solution of one part tea tree oil to 19 parts water. Mix thoroughly. Use a cotton ball to apply a few drops of this solution to the parts of your acne that are especially oily. Tea tree oil is a natural astringent that can remove excess oil from your skin. Use tea tree oil very sparingly as it can cause irritation and inflammation to your skin.
Step 2
Try garlic as an acne treatment. Peel the skin from a clove of raw garlic and slice it open with a sharp knife. Apply the cut end directly to your acne for no more than five to 10 minutes. The active sulfur in garlic juice serves as an antiseptic against the bacteria that can block the hair follicles.
Step 3
Prepare a solution of four parts water to one part lemon juice. Mix these ingredients together thoroughly and apply it to your acne with a soft washcloth. Hold the washcloth against your acne for a few minutes each day. Lemon juice can remove the loose skin cells on the surface of your skin to keep them from clogging the hair follicles.
Step 4
Use an oatmeal mask to help clear the pores of your acne-prone skin.. Cook a serving of oatmeal as you normally would if you were going to eat it. Allow it to cool. Spread the oatmeal in a thin layer over your acne. Wait for the oatmeal to dry. Remove it with soap and warm water. Don’t allow the oatmeal to go down the drain as this can clog bathroom plumbing.
