Most people have experienced acne at one time or another. For some people, the acne goes away quickly, leaving few marks or scars. Other people experience dark acne scars that last for years. The Nemours Foundation explains that there are two types of acne scars–those with a gradual depression and those that are deep but narrow. There are several ways to quickly get rid of acne scars. Though they are not necessarily inexpensive, these particular methods can help by leaving the skin looking smooth and even-toned in a short period of time.
Chemical Peels
Chemical peels reduce acne scars quickly by stimulating the growth of a new, smoother layer of skin. According to the Mayo Clinic, chemical peels, which are done in salons and dermatologists’ offices, use chemicals like glycolic acid or salicylic acid to unclog pores and stimulate new cell growth. Though they sometimes cause redness and peeling in the short term, chemical peels can reduce acne scars effectively, especially when done in a series of treatments.
Microdermabrasions
The Nemours Foundation states that microdermabrasions involve using small pieces of diamond on the tip of a spinning instrument to take of the top layer of the skin. They are helpful to reduce acne scars because when the top layer of skin is removed, a new layer of skin that is smoother and more even-toned is revealed. The Nemours Foundation recommends 10 treatments of microdermabrasions to see the best results, which can take up to three weeks. Considering the depth of acne scarring, three weeks is a quick treatment for most people.
Laser Resurfacing
Laser resurfacing is another method to get rid of acne scarring quickly. Done in a doctor’s office, laser resurfacing removes the top layer of skin, similar to a microdermabrasion, except for that it is does with a laser instead of manually with a diamond tip. The result is smoother, more even skin with fewer acne marks, according to the Nemours Foundation. Though this treatment can procure quick results, it can also be painful.
Fractional Laser Therapy
Fractional laser therapy is a treatment done in some doctors and dermatologists offices to even out skin tone. It is different from laser resurfacing in that it involves lasers that affect not only the top layer of skin but deeper layers of the skin as well. The Nemours Foundation explains that because fractional laser therapy uses layers to speed healing to the lower layers of skin, the result of removing acne scars comes quickly.
