Natural Ways to Beat Cellulite

Cellulite consists of fat stored in pockets just below the surface of the skin, resulting in lumpy and dimpled areas that can be embarrassing. According to Kids Health, cellulite is most common on the thighs, buttocks and stomach and can occur in men and women. Those who have family members suffering from cellulite or thin skin are more likely to experience cellulite. Kids Health states that some creams claiming to get rid of cellulite are ineffective, and medical treatments such as liposuction are expensive. Although cellulite is difficult to eliminate, it is possible to reduce its appearance through natural remedies.

Diet

Following a healthy diet will reduce the amount of overall fat in the body, making cellulite less noticeable. According to Medline Plus, maintaining a healthy weight and losing weight gradually is more effective than attempting to lose weight quickly and drastically. Consuming fewer calories and less fat while increasing the intake of fruits, vegetables and fiber is a healthy way to reduce cellulite. Dehydration can make cellulite look worse, so a regular intake of water is also beneficial. Mother Nature states that excess amounts of salt should be avoided, because salt causes water retention and increases cellulite.

Exercise and Lifestyle Changes

Exercise will not only help with weight loss and maintaining a healthy weight, but muscle toning and strength training can fill out the tissue in areas with cellulite. According to Kids Health, combining aerobic exercise with strength training is the best way to eliminate cellulite. Some toning and strength training exercises include running, crunches and squats. Making lifestyle changes can reduce cellulite as well, such as reducing the intake of caffeine. According to Mother Nature, smoking and caffeine intake both constrict blood vessels and increase the amount of cellulite.

Massages and Bathing

Firmly kneading areas affected by cellulite can help to disperse the fat elsewhere instead of focusing it in pockets that appear lumpy. Mother Nature suggests massaging the skin by brushing it with a soft brush to improve circulation to the area. A mineral bath containing sea salt can help reduce cellulite by helping the body to detoxify and absorb nutrients to improve circulation and reduce fat. Add 2 cups of sea salt to a bathtub of warm water and sit in it for 20 minutes.

Body Wraps

Body wraps help to improve circulation and tighten and tone skin, reducing the appearance of cellulite. Free Beauty Tips states that after brewing coffee, you can use a handful of the warm grounds and massage them onto areas affected by cellulite and then wrap the area with plastic wrap for 20 minutes. According to Health Recipes, a body wrap can also be made by combining 1 cup of bentonite clay, 1/4 cup of sea salt, 2 tbsp. of olive oil and 2 cups of warm water and mixing the ingredients until they form a wet paste. This mixture can be rubbed on areas with cellulite and left on for one hour.
