Overview
Many foods and ingredients found in the kitchen contain natural alpha hydroxy acids that can help make the skin smooth and mark free. These alpha hydroxy acids such as lactic acid, citric acid and glycolic acid are found in several household items and cost a significant amount less than dermatologist treatments and cosmetic counter products. In fact, WomensHealth.gov states that cosmetics and dermatologist treatments with alpha hydroxy acids can have adverse effects such as swelling, burning and itching due to the intense strength. Natural items with alpha hydroxy acids offer just enough to smooth the skin gradually without harsh side effects.
Step 1
Combine 1 cup dried milk and 1 cup Epsom salt. Pour into a warm bath and relax for 15 minutes. Milk contains lactic acid which has cleansing, exfoliating and mild lightening capabilities. Epsom salt, made from the mineral magnesium sulfate, is an added bonus to relieve tired muscles while you soak.
Step 2
Cleanse the face with plain yogurt twice a day. Yogurt, like all dairy products, contains lactic acid. Yogurt is anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, mildly bleaching and moisturizing.
Step 3
Take 1 tbsp. dried milk and add enough lemon juice, about 2 tsp., to make a paste. Citric acid from lemons smooths rough skin while gently lighting dark scars. Lemons also contain vitamin C, which the American Academy of Dermatology says boosts collagen production for smoother skin.
Step 4
Scrub the body with a mixture of white sugar and baking soda. Baking soda cleans the skin while sugar provides an intense exfoliation to smooth rough areas. Sugar also contains glycolic acid, and according to the American Academy of Dermatology, glycolic acid is used by dermatologists in the form of peels, washes and lotions to treat serious skin conditions, such as rosacea, to make skin smooth and mark free.
Step 5
Moisturize the face and body with pure grapeseed oil. Grapseed oil contains antioxidants and vitamins, such as vitamin E, to keep skin clear and smooth. It moisturizes the skin well and absorbs into the pores fast. Pour oil into a clean pump bottle for easy dispensing.
