Overview
Indulging in foot spa treatments need not be an expensive proposition. Pamper your feet at home with a soothing foot bath that includes your choice of aromatic herbs, followed by a moisturizing regime that will help your feet stay soft and smooth. An herbal foot soak is not the only way to make a foot spa at home; you can relieve tired, aching feet with a simple Epsom salt soak two to three times each week.
Step 1
Wrap the dried herbs in cheesecloth. Tie the cheesecloth securely around the herbs with string. You can use any type of herbs to make a foot spa bath. Choose herbs based on the desired relief: lavender or rose contributes to a restful sleep, peppermint can help increase circulation, lemon balm can help relieve stress and California poppy can help relieve aching feet. The aromatic properties of an herbal foot spa are a side benefit.
Step 2
Bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Remove the water from the heat. Submerge the dried herb packet into the hot water. Steep the herb packet in the hot water for 10 minutes. Remove the herb packet.
Step 3
Fill a basin 3/4 of the way to the top with warm water. You can use a small plastic tub, a roasting pan or any water-tight container that will fit your feet and hold enough water to cover them up over your ankles.
Step 4
Pour the herb-steeped water into the basin. Dip your toe to ensure that the water is not too hot, then soak both feet in the foot spa for 10 to 15 minutes.
Step 5
Scrub the dead skin from your feet with a pumice stone. Your feet should be soft from the foot bath, so the dead skin will come away easily.
Step 6
Dry your feet. Apply a liberal amount of moisturizer to both feet. Allow your feet to absorb the moisturizer for two to three minutes, then cover your feet with cotton socks. The socks will help hold in the benefits of the moisturizer. Sleep in the socks for optimum results.
