A Home Remedy Treatment for Acne Scars and Rosacea

Overview

Acne is a skin condition common among teenagers, although it can affect individuals at any age. While acne does not usually pose a serious health problem, severe cases can lead to permanent scarring. Rosacea is another inflammatory skin condition where the face gets red with bumps or pustules on the chin, cheeks and forehead. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, approximately 14 million Americans between the ages of 30 and 50 have rosacea. Fortunately, there are several home remedies you can use to help fade acne scarring or reduce the redness related to rosacea.

Acne

Step 1

Treat acne scars with oatmeal and honey. Cook a packet of plain oatmeal. Mix 1/4 cup of honey with the oatmeal. Wait for the oatmeal to cool and then apply to your face. Be careful not to get any in your eyes. Let the oatmeal treatment on your face for 10 to 20 minutes before washing off to clean pores and exfoliate the skin.

Step 2

Mix together some cinnamon powder and honey. Massage into your face as a moisturizer before going to bed. In the morning, wash your face with warm water.

Step 3

Make a paste of sandalwood and rosewater. Apply to your face. Keep on for about one hour before washing off. This treatment is recommended for oily skin.

Step 4

Combine 1 tsp. of ground nutmeg with 1 tsp. of honey. Apply to acne scars. Keep it on for 20 minutes before washing off with cool water. Continue this regimen twice each week until scarring begins to improve.

Step 5

Apply a small amount of toothpaste to acne lesions. Wash off after about half an hour. Pimples that heal faster are less likely to leave scars.

Rosacea

Step 1

Use extract from the root of the herb licorice as a topical treatment for rosacea. The persistent redness associated with mild cases of the condition may see some improvement within several weeks. The enzyme glycyrrhizinate in licorice acts as an anti-inflammatory and moisturizing agent.

Step 2

Puree four tomatoes and sieve before mixing with some freshly ground oatmeal and 1 tsp. of clear honey. Apply to the affected area. Rinse off after 10 minutes. This home remedy may also help to prevent future outbreaks.

Step 3

Boil a small pan of water. Add the herb chamomile to the water and then continue boiling for 10 minutes. Strain the mixture and refrigerate to cool. Wash your face with cold water. Dip a clean cotton washcloth into the chamomile water, and the apply the cloth to the affected areas.
