Home Remedy for Removing Facial Hair on Women

Overview

Hirsutism is the name of the condition that causes women to grow excess facial hair. In addition to hair on the face, women with hirsutism also grow excess hair on the chest, abdomen and back. The condition is genetic and usually strikes women from the Mediterranean Sea area, South Asia and the Middle East. Although hirsutism usually is not a medical problem, it can cause embarrassment, but women can try home remedies to remove the hair.

Step 1

Use a clean, sharp razor to shave off the hair. Shaving is the easiest and safest way to remove hair, according to the American Academy of Family Physicians. Use a dab of 1 percent hydrocortisone cream to relieve irritations caused by shaving.

Step 2

Pluck the hairs out with tweezers that have a tight, sealed grip. Heat your face with a moist, hot towel or hold your face over a bowl of steaming water to open pores and reduce the stinging sensations associated with tweezing.

Step 3

Apply hot wax to areas of the face where you need to remove larger patches of hair. Pull off the wax strip to yank out bunches of hairs at once. Like tweezing, waxing pulls hair out from the roots, which gives you more time before it grows back and also does not leave roots showing.

Step 4

Test a small amount of an over-the-counter depilatory before applying it to your face, checking to see if your skin is sensitive to the chemical compound. If you have no harsh reaction, apply the cream to the hair on your face, and let it set according to the directions. After it has set, wipe it off with a warm, moist washcloth. Depilatories melt hair down through the follicles and are the most thorough means for removing hair.
