Overview
Acne is a disorder of the sebaceous glands and the hair follicles. It occurs when the sebaceous glands secrete too much of an oily substance known as sebum. Excess sebum can clog the hair follicles, which may then erupt into pustules. You can make remedies for acne at home with a variety of common materials. The goal of these treatments is to keep your pores clear without using acne medication.
Step 1
Squeeze the juice from a lemon and add four parts water for each part of lemon juice. Soak a washcloth in the solution and wring out the excess liquid. Hold the washcloth to your acne for several minutes each day. Lemon juice contains citric acid which can remove the dead skin cells on the surface of your skin.
Step 2
Apply a thin layer of honey to your acne prone skin and wait for it to dry. Remove the dried honey with warm water and a mild soap. This treatment serves as a homemade skin peel which can remove surface skin cells. Manuka honey is best for this because it has stronger anti-bacterial properties than regular honey.
Step 3
Peel a garlic clove and slice it cleanly in half with the sharp knife. Apply the cut end to your acne for five to 10 minutes each day. Garlic contains active sulfur which can help eradicate the bacteria colonies on your skin that can clog your pores. It’s important that you use this treatment only for short periods, because prolonged exposure to garlic juice will cause your skin to blister.
Step 4
Add one part tea tree oil to 19 parts water and mix thoroughly. Use a cotton ball to dab a few drops of this mixture where your skin is especially oily. Tea tree oil is a natural astringent, meaning that it absorbs excess oil from your skin. Use this treatment sparingly as it can easily dry out your skin.
