Dull, dry skin, wrinkles around your eyes and mouth and brown spots on your skin are among the first signs of aging to show up on your face. Though age eventually leaves its mark on everyone, several things can slow down its effects on your face. And while you can get good results from expensive anti-aging products from the drugstore or department store, home remedies can be just as effective.
Skin Renewing Exfoliator
As your skin gets older, it doesn’t renew its cells as quickly. When dead cells accumulate on the surface of your skin, they keep new, healthy skin from showing through, leaving your skin looking dull and old. Regular exfoliation clears away those dead skin cells. You can make an exfoliating scrub by combining equal parts sugar or salt and an oil-like olive oil or vegetable oil. Massage the mixture into your skin, making small, upward motions with your fingertips starting at the center of your face and moving up toward your eyes, being careful to avoid getting the mixture in your eyes.
Wrinkle Reducing Mask
As you get older, your skin slows down its oil production. The lack of moisture leaves your skin dry and saggy, causing wrinkles to appear, says the Mayo Clinic. The best way to combat the loss of your skin’s natural moisture is to pump up your moisturizing routine. In addition to your regular daily moisturizer, use an intensive moisturizing mask once a week. You can make your own by combining a mashed avocado with a few spoonfuls of honey–the avocado’s omega-3 fatty acids pack a moisturizing punch, while honey soothes and hydrates. Apply the avocado-honey mask generously to your face, concentrating on the wrinkle-prone areas around your mouth and eyes but being careful to keep the mixture from getting into your eyes, and let it soak into your skin for about 20 minutes.
Age Spot Eraser
Age spots, brown discolorations that can pop up on your skin after years of unprotected time in the sun, according to the Mayo Clinic, can make you look older than you are. You can buy over-the-counter bleaching creams, but plain lemon juice works just as well. Squeeze the juice from a fresh lemon, and use a cotton ball to apply it to spots on your face a couple of times a day. In a few weeks, the natural acidity of the lemon juice will erode the top layer of your skin to fade the spots.
