Deep Conditioning Treatments for Damaged Hair

If your hair is the consistency of straw and looks more limp and lifeless than usual, it may be damaged. Your hair may have become damaged due to blow drying, coloring, perming, straightening, curling, or excessive exposure to sun, wind or chlorine. Try a deep conditioning treatment to nourish and moisturize your hair, making it shiny and smooth.

Mayonnaise

Apply a generous coating of mayonnaise to the hair for an effective deep conditioning treatment, suggests Steven Docherty, senior art director at Vidal Sassoon Salon in New York City. Spread store-bought mayonnaise on dry hair, straight from the jar. Leave the mayonnaise on for up to an hour, and wrap the hair in plastic wrap or a shower cap so it doesn’t drip. Rinse the hair in the shower, then use a mild shampoo and condition as usual.

Avocado Hair Mask

Make an avocado hair mask to restore moisture and protein in damaged hair, says Helen Ambrosen in “Cosmopolitan” magazine. Combine an egg, an avocado, 2 tbsp. olive oil and a banana in a large bowl. Whip the mixture until smooth, then apply a generous amount–about one-third of the mixture–to the hair. Leave the mask on the hair for 10 minutes with a shower cap or piece of plastic wrap over the head, then wash the hair with a gentle shampoo and condition.

Egg Conditioning Treatment

Use an egg conditioning treatment to reverse the effects of hair damage, particularly from chlorine or the sun, suggests SheKnows.com. Place two eggs, 1 tbsp. honey and juice from two limes into a bowl, then whisk thoroughly until the ingredients are completely combined. Saturate your hair completely with the mixture, then wrap your hair in plastic wrap. Leave the mixture on your hair for 45 minutes, then rinse your hair with cool water and wash the hair with a mild shampoo.
