Instead of frying foods such as potatoes, tortillas and egg rolls, try baking them instead. You can achieve hot, crispy-on-the-outside, tender-on-the-inside goodness without the dangerous chemicals that can be released during the frying process. Not to mention, you’ll eliminate the adverse health effects of frying in fatty oils.
More healthy alternatives to frying include sauteing, stir-frying, poaching, and broiling. With the BMI of many children and teenagers escalating every year, it’s worth the effort to make baking and other enticing non-fried options a part of your everyday mealtime drill. An added benefit? You’ll hopefully get the kids to park more frequently at a healthy family table and hit the fast-food drive-thru’s less.
This change is simple to accomplish. After all, baking is certainly quicker and less messy than frying. The bigger challenge lies in adopting a change in attitude about how you prepare your food. The trick is to prepare healthy and delicious meals with simple, fresh, natural ingredients that are equally “appealing” as the fried stuff. Click here for inspiration on where to start.
