Since we have a one-year-old baby, it will probably be some time before our next snowboarding holiday in the Swiss Alps, or our next raucous long weekend in Amsterdam. But we would really like to get away: we deserve it after a year of sleeplessness and diapers and rocketing change.
We are considering some family-friendly options, and, since the environment has recently become a lot more important to me (something about having a baby seemed to really heighten my awareness of environmental issues) we’d like to consider an earth-friendly vacation as well.
Karen Walrond wrote an excellent post on Emerald Market yesterday about eco-tourism and how you can find a vacation resort that cares about the environment in actions as well as words.
She suggests checking out the International EcoTourism Society page when deciding on a destination. The society’s mission is to “promote responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people.”
Now all that’s left to do is narrow down the field. We can get a little R&R and feel good about doing it without disrupting earth’s ebb and flow.
