Americans have warred against UFOs and have covered up their existence for more than half a century. Those are just two of the stunning charges made by Canada’s former defense minister, Paul Hellyer.
The 87-year-old Hellyer insists that UFOs are real.
Is this man some kind of kook? His resume doesn’t read like a person who’s part of the tinfoil hat brigade.
A member in good standing of the prestigious Queen’s Privy Council for Canada, and a man given the credit of successfully integrating the Canadian armed forces, Hellyer’s tenure as the head of Canadian defense was marked with distinctions and honors.
He admits that his view may cause controversy and that if he were still the defense minister today he would probably be fired. But he doesn’t care as he has observed actual UFOs himself.
Relating one sighting he had with his wife, the ex-defense minister says that while spending Thanksgiving holiday near Toronto, they spotted a UFO and watched it maneuver around the sky for about 20 minutes.
But Hellyer’s certainly not alone. Other top world leaders and famous people have also seen UFOs. They not only reported them, but believed they were intelligently controlled.
Among the many luminaries that have reported encounters are presidents Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter; NASA astronauts Cooper, Lovell and Borman; and actors Jackie Gleason and William Shatner.
Yes, Captain Kirk himself had an encounter with a UFO and he admitted it really shook him up.
Hellyer, speaking about his former position and other world defense chiefs, said: “This is the kind of thing that sometimes they don’t tell politicians about.”
Most wouldn’t as they might not hold their posts for very long. Although Hellyer believes that some knew more than him and weren’t talking. “I have no doubt that there were probably people in my employ who would have been more knowledgeable than I was at the time.
“I got periodic reports on sightings and I looked at them very casually. It was decided that about 80 per cent of them were natural phenomena of one sort or another and the other 20 per cent roughly were unexplained and therefore unidentified.”
A former British defense official, Nick Pope once headed the British Government’s UFO project at the Ministry of Defense.
He admits he was initially skeptical about the whole subject until he obtained access to sensitive UFO incidents and direct access to government files. The scope of the phenomenon stunned him and raised important national security issues in his mind.
Many of the reports were secret and kept from the media, especially those with witnesses that were active military pilots.
