You see it in the movies, the haggard homeless man with a cardboard box strapped around his neck; the words boldly imprinted “THE END IS NEAR”. You hear friends and family members talk about it right after an Act of God demolishes buildings, infrastructure and homes killing hundreds if not thousands of innocent people – men, woman and children alike.
Should we be preparing for the end of the world? A question raised by many, but when raised, do we really know what we should be preparing for? The possibilities for the end of the world is limitless, we may find that the earth is moving closer to the Sun, increasing Earth’s temperatures, steaming up our oceans, seas, lakes and dams. Or could it be that Earth moves further away from the Sun, causing our oceans, seas, lakes and dams to solidify into giant ice-rinks, the onslaught of another Ice Age (and no, I am not referring to the Cartoon Movie). It may well be that a giant meteorite is heading towards our beautiful planet, with us, the inhabitants of earth, helplessly watching as a huge rock encompasses our sky darkening our days with fiery balls of smaller rock hitting our atmosphere. Should Science Fiction movies be anything to go by, the end of world could possibly be the end of mankind’s freedom, being attacked by aliens who wish to enslave us all and eat away all of our natural resources before moving onto the next innocent planet.
Moving away from the universe ending our world theory, what about massive earthquakes which splits the earth into two and swallows up all the land with massive tidal waves hitting from all corners resulting in a giant whirlpool, a vortex of sorts which engulfs all in its path, leaving behind a planet where no land is visible and the nations of the world join Atlantis under our oceans. There is also the possibility of the opposite occurring, man’s misuse of planet earth resulting in our water resources becoming depleted, leaving behind a barren land where water becomes the new commodity of trade.
Looking at the above, should you start to prepare for the end of the world, I suggest you stock up on water, cool clothing, warm clothing, helmets (lest those smaller meteorites make a beeline for your head), invest in some martial arts or hand to hand combat training for those ET’s who do not want to go home and a boat to sail across the massive sea with, of course the choice being yours if you would like to invite along two of each animals for some company.
So, should we start preparing for the end of the world, and if we do, were do we start?
